For the past few days I’ve been just consistently binging Terrace House on Netflix, and it just now hit me that I’m comfortably watching an unscripted show, where natives talk over each other, use slang and speak in a natural environment, across a wide range of topics like work, major life goals, dating, hobbies and other random house hold dramas that arise, while also catching a lot of the jokes that the commentary panel makes in between (although some that require cultural knowledge from the past or reference for example older Japanese comics still go over my head lol). In my opinion this is the ideal type of input since it’s unscripted and about as natural as you’re going to get as far as content is concerned.

In the past 7 days I’ve binged almost 100 episodes of Terrace house and have done just over 50h of input with just Terrace House alone… This the first time that I’ve found unscripted Japanese content that I would chose to watch over content that’s in English or Spanish.

Seeing 94% word comprehension is also a nice motivation booster, especially considering how strict I’ve been with marking words as “known” in Migaku.

Anyways I legit have no idea how Japanese is going to feel like at the end of this year with around 2200h of input and probably over 13k words known (literally every prediction I’ve made so far was wrong lol), but I think I can finally say, the boulder has gone up and over the other side of the hill now!!!
